Tonight while smanettavo a bit of Sid, the strangest thing happened to me, all of a sudden I do not know how and why, not

I was able to get root privileges. The error in the terminal was as follows:

(Gedit: 4397): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Unable to create ~ / .gnome2 directory: No such file or directory
Could not create per-user gnome configuration directory `/root/.gnome2/ ': No such file or directory

After a bit of concussions are able to understand and solve the problem, which was given by a change (I do not know how it is

occurred) in / etc / passwd, where root is located in / home / root instead in / root. At this point I could only give a:

Ctrl-Alt-F1

nano / etc / passwd

and in line dedicated to root delete the entry / home. I hope it's useful to someone. Enjoi ;)

S egnalo these four excellent programs for mass rename photos, folders, mp3 based on their ID3 tags, etc.etc.

All quest. programs possess a very simple and intuitive graphical interface. Three are in the repository:

pyrenamer
gprename
Krename

The fourth is called Métamorphose a very flexible and powerful program written in pyton. On the site you will find the deb package.

For the installation requires if they are not already installed python-python-wxgtk2.6 wxtools.

apt-get install python-python-wxgtk2.6 wxtools

Unless you want to resort to something of the kind , all four are recommended.

O ne of the difficulties in moving from Windows to GNU-Linux is the fear of not having programs to which you are accustomed, or at least equivalent. This is nothing more than an urban legend, carried out by those who have an absolute monopoly and would like the death of open source. Course of a professional who uses Photoshop to work rather than Gimp, there is nothing to say, but all the others who use Photoshop to correct your photos or red eyes, I laugh, and make me think. ... that if they had to buy it, the cocks that they would use. The software you pay for, given that there are people behind that work there, or should rely all'opensource that it has so many programs, not forgetting that free does not mean free, because in this world there are professional programs for a fee. On why use Linux instead of windows, on the pros and cons and the technical aspects and ethical issues, the network has already been widely written. What little was said about it is that being a windows user rather than a linux user, may have relevances from the sexual point of view. This is what has emerged from recent studies done at Columbus University, where they were surveyed a thousand people, including men and women, belonging to the 2 operating systems. Even among the luminaries who took part in these studies was curious to see if there were differences in sex, since even among them were users of either OS. They started their studies, bringing together men with women-linux-windows, and vice versa, then, men with women-windows-linux, and have begun to study them and follow them step by step in all the moments <love>. After months of study and hard work, it has come to these conclusions: Read the rest of this entry »

Sometimes some things are forgotten, and thank goodness there the shell to remember them. I, for example I could not remember the day of the week in which I was born, and then I remembered cal.

cal

shows the current month

cal y

shows the entire year

cal -3

show along with the current month than the previous one and the next one

cal January 1971

gave me last month when I was born, so I could remember which day of the week was a Friday Azz are aged, it was better if I did not use cal

A ll we know what the 'MBR (master boot record), and all of us especially in the beginning we feared, above all, when you installed the kind of os, which costs so much, and does not give you anything, not even a program indeed no one is there, notepad.exe. However, as we all know, in 'MBR installs the boot loader and the partition table stored. So in case you sminchiasse, for us would be a waste of time, and also un'incazzatura. So since prevention is better than cure in our help comes to us the dd command, which saves us the first 512 bytes of the disk.

# Dd if = / dev / sda of = ~ / mbr.img bs = 512 count = 1

Et voila. It is now safe. To check the content we use:

or -XA mbr.img

To restore use:

mbr.img dd if = of = / dev / sda bs = 512 count = 1

T here are several graphics applications that allow you to extract the audio tracks on the cd. I use that on my Debian gnome for example I sound juicer default. They are all very easy to use, but all are nothing more than a graphical front-end for the command line program called paranoia This tool, however, is very simple to use. Here are some examples:

cdparanoia-B

extracts all the tracks on the CD, in the form of wav file

cdparanoia-B - -2

extracts only the first 2 songs

Here the user
